Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer student/teacher/educational institution discounts?

Yes. Savings can be significant. Contact us directly for more information.

Can I install the fonts on my laptop and my desktop computer?

Yes. A Desktop License will allow you to install the font(s) on both your desktop workstation and your laptop.

Can I send this font to a printer for my project?

Yes. Please review Article 2e. Commercial Printers/Service Bureaus of the Desktop End User License Agreement for further clarification.

Can I modify or “tweak” your fonts or hire someone to do so?

You have the right to modify the vector outlines of a Positype font that YOU have licensed using any drawing program, such as Adobe® Illustrator®. Opening or decompiling the fonts in any font editing program, modifying, amending, renaming and/or generating a font file with your changes is expressly prohibited. Period. You many not create new font files from modifying or amending Positype vector data. If you would like to make modifications to a Positype font, you must first consult with Positype to determine the best course of action. In many instances, this can be handled directly by Positype and not void your license.

Can I let my colleague use this font to see if he/she likes it first?

Nope.

Can I use this font in my personal logo?

Yes. If you plan on using it for any other type of entity, it is best to check with us first to get the “all-clear” or modify your existing license.

Can I use your fonts on my website?

If you only have a desktop license of a Positype font and want to use it on your website you have three options: create images, create XML-based vector images, or amend your license. Creating images (pngs, jpgs, or gifs) of the text you want on the site can be produced easily using several image-editing applications. Using Adobe® Illustrator® to produced XML-based vector images in SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format is permitted as long as all text using Positype fonts is converted to paths before saving. Amending your existing license to include Webfont usage would give you access to an additional set of web-compliant file formats that work in concert with CSS @font-face implementation. Contact us directly to make this process easier.

Can I create/generate my own webfont versions of your font if I know how?

No. Doing so would void your Desktop license. Contact us directly to amend your current license to include Webfont usage.

Can I serve TTFs, OTFs, SVGs from my website and still be in compliance with my license?

No. Our Webfont license includes the use of WOFF and WOFF2 font file formats only. (please inquire for EOT formats) Additionally, other font replacement techniques that include Cufon, typeface.js or any other exchange format are not allowed by any license offered by Positype.

Can I put your free fonts on my bit-torrent site?

What the hell?! No. Never. No Positype font, free or otherwise, will ever receive permission to be freely downloaded from any form of file sharing site. If you are doing this, you are breaking the law. Stop, remove the fonts immediately, slap yourself, and apologize for being so stupid. If you discover a Positype font (or any type designer’s font) being freely shared on any website, please notify Positype (or the respective type designer) so we can take steps to preserve and protect our hard work.

Can I send you a copy of my own font to see if it can be published?

Kinda the wrong section to be looking for an answer to this, but sure, send it on.

Do I need a separate license for web and print use?

Yep.

I need a webfont license that covers more monthly pageviews than you offer, what do I do?

Email us through the contact form on this site. It’s simple to calculate and deliver what you need.

Are you really scared of Clowns?

Yes! Creepy little buggers.

I’m building an app, now what?

Now what, indeed. First question to answer is what kind of app: for a mobile device or web-based app. If it is exclusively for a mobile device, you will only need an Appfont license. If it is a web-based app, stick with a Webfont license. If you are building for both platforms, then license for both accordingly. And hey, why not contact us directly to have a custom license built for you that includes all (desktop, webfont, appfont) formats, so each department can work with the Positype fonts directly.

Do you offer exclusive licenses or custom recuts?

Yes. For a fee. Contact us today to determine what options you have.
