Phren Sans
Created
2023
Client
RVOHealth
Designer
Neil Summerour

Designed for RVOHealth in 2023, Phren Sans is a 10-style rational sans serif developed as a foundational typeface for the company's broad communications system. Drawn with editorial clarity and digital legibility as foundational considerations, the family was designed to work across long-form content, marketing materials, and interface contexts that span RVOHealth's publishing footprint. The family includes a dedicated Micro version, specifically engineered for small-size settings where clarity and legibility under reduced size and resolution become critical. Together with Kardia Serif, Phren forms half of a coordinated typographic system built for the full breadth of RVOHealth's communications.

Modern healthcare is shifting toward prevention, personalization, and patient empowerment, with technology helping doctors and patients work together to make decisions that fit individual lives and long-term goals.
Light Oblique
Wellness is not a destination but a daily practice… small choices in movement, nutrition, sleep, and mindfulness that compound quietly over years into meaningful improvements in long-term health.
Medium
Healthcare has undergone a quiet transformation over the past decade, shifting from a reactive model focused on treating illness toward a proactive practice centered on prevention, early detection, and long-term wellbeing. The change has been driven by advances in research, the rise of personalized medicine, and a growing recognition that the choices people make daily, in how they eat, move, sleep, and manage stress, shape their health more than any single clinical intervention. For patients, this shift has meant new tools and new expectations. Wearable devices track heart rates, sleep patterns, and activity levels across the day. Telehealth platforms have made medical consultations accessible to people who once faced barriers of distance or scheduling. Digital health records give patients ownership of their own data, allowing them to share information across specialists and follow their own health journey with clarity. Apps and online resources have expanded access to mental health support, nutrition guidance, and chronic condition management, putting tools in hand that previous generations could only access through scheduled appointments. For practitioners and health institutions, the shift has changed how care is delivered. Doctors are working in coordinated teams across specialties. Pharmaceutical companies are investing in targeted therapies developed for specific patient profiles. Hospitals are integrating preventive care into their service models, recognizing that long-term outcomes are shaped as much by lifestyle and environment as by clinical treatment. The result is a healthcare landscape that is more responsive, more individualized, and more centered on the people it exists to serve.
