Superscript started as a personal challenge... simple as that. I had been doodling in a sketchbook with a sumi brush, focusing on very compressed, high-contrast, connected script letterforms. This type of doodle is usually a warm-up exercise.
Something from a set of exemplars clicked, so it slowly developed, out of whimsy, into the rough parts of a typeface. Then, it sat for two years. After that hiatus, the typeface, still very compressed but highly resolved, gained momentum. The fact that the typeface has multiple weights is Potch Auacherdkul's fault. He commented that it should have a thin weight. Potch is a jerk, but I started drawing, and the two of us completed that additional weight and the subsequent interpolations. He was right. It was totally worth it.
